Vladimir Petrovich Kozlov
June 23, 1949 – January 10, 2025
A member of the editorial board of the journal "Herald of an Archivist," Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Actual State Councilor of the Russian Federation, 1st Class, has passed away.
Vladimir Petrovich graduated from the History and Archives Department of the Moscow State Historical and Archives Institute (MGIAI-RSUH) in 1972, specializing in source studies. In 1976, he defended his dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Historical Sciences at the Institute of History of the USSR of the USSR Academy of Sciences on the topic "K.F. Kalaydovich and the Development of Auxiliary (Special) Historical Disciplines." In 1989, he defended his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Historical Sciences, "Russian Archaeography of the Late 18th – First Quarter of the 19th Centuries," at the Moscow State Historical and Archival Institute.
From 1991 to 1993, he served as Director of the Russian Center for the Preservation and Study of Modern Historical Documents (now RGASPI). From 1993 to 1996, he served as Deputy Head of the State Archival Service of Russia (later the Federal Archival Service).
From 1996 to 2004, he served as Head of the Federal Archival Service of Russia, and from 2004 to 2009, he served as Head of the Federal Archival Agency. He specializes in cultural studies, documentary information, methodology, Russian history, historiography, source studies, historical research methods, archival science, political history, the history of social thought, and historical biography.
