The publication of the «Diary of one witness» of the Grand Duke Boris Vladimirovich personal secretary Ivan De Schaeck, who accompanied the Romanovs in Caucasus in 1917–1919

Annotation

This article is devoted to the firsthand acquaintance with the works of Ivan de Schaeck, who was for a long time a personal secretary of the Grand Duke Boris Romanov, cousin of the tsar Nicholas II. In 1917-1919 Ivan de Schaeck found himself in the Caucasus, together with the Grand Duke Boris and his brother Andrew. Here Ivan de Schaeck wrote a diary, in which he described the dramatic and tragic events of Bolshevik revolution and the history of the life saving of the members of the tsar?s family in Kabarda. This history was public shed for the first time in 1920 in the French magazine “La Revue nouvelle” and remained unknown for the Russian readers nearly a century. The “Diary of one Witness” of Ivan de Schaeck is the important, interesting and truthful literary source-book for the study of the Russian Revolution and the fortunes of the representatives of the House of Romanov.
