The Staffing Issues in the Archive Institutions and the Undertakings of the Russian Society of Historians and Archivists (RSHA) for Improving the Quality of Vocational Education in Humanity Subjects in Modern Times

Annotation

The article reviews the staffing issues in the archive institutions and the problems of improving the quality of archivists training, thus the goals of the Board of the Central Council of the Russian Society of Historians and Archivists (RSHA), a partner of the Russian State University for the Humanities (RSUH), of the All-Russian Archival Science and Records Management Research Institute and the Federal Archive Agency, are determined. Both in the center and in the periphery the Russian Society of Historians and Archivists (RSHA) pursues its concept of the archives’ cultural value, pleads the need to maintain and enrich the nation’s archives, coordinates the efforts of and cooperation between educational institutions in recruitment, which is necessary for improving the quality of training and education. To promote new forms and methods of improving the status of historian, archivist and document specialist, to further their creative exploration in the branch offices and representative establishments of the Russian Society of Historians and Archivists (RSHA) and other federal archive institutions in various subordinate entities of the Russian Federation is expedient to achieving this goal. The Russian Society of Historians and Archivists (RSHA) holds up best traditions of mentoring, tuition of the recent graduates in workshops and seminars, through pooling of experience, discussing departmental periodicals, engaging graduates in research, redaction of the source books and proceedings, organization of national and international exhibitions, guided tours through the archives and veterans public meetings. Upholding these traditions becomes yet more important as the workload in such traditional spheres as information support of government authorities, answering the queries of the citizens grows and new challenges present themselves: adopting modern information technologies and accepting electronic documents for archiving, to begin with. The recent decades have provided conditions for the emergence of a new concept of an archive. An archive is now an actor in the information process, a part of information resources and information systems. Under this circumstances, the issue of acquisition and preservation of the archives, an integral part of national heritage, by the high-skilled archivists is growing more crucial than ever for the prevention of threats to the information security of Russia.
