Archive documents about the social situation and economic development in the province of Kursk during the World War I

Annotation

Approaching anniversary of the World War I activates research interest to it`s history. Actual scientific objectives are detailing of participation in hostilities of individual military units, an objective assessment of the impact of war on the ordinary life of the country, a reflection of the individual's role in the military-political events. Special importance in this situation is the problem of detecting and using documents at the disposal of the federal and regional archives. Perspective direction of research is the localization of military history. The impact of events of the World War I to the fate of residents of a particular region is quite possible to trace with the involvement of archival documents. Kursk province from July 1914 was included in the organizational-mobilization events and socio-economic realities of war, because it was typical agricultural region of central Russia with a predominance of manufacturing industry. History of Kursk province in beginning of 20th century is reflected in dissertations, monographs and scientific publications of local historians L.A. Kuznetsova, I.V. Sahnevich, E.S. Kravtsova, F.A. Gavrikova and others. But the socio-economic development of the province during the World War I until present time did not become the subject of special study. The purpose of our research is the analysis of the composition and content of the source base, reflecting the characteristics of the socio-economic life of Kursk province in 1914-1918. Methodological basis of the research amounted source-based and comparative-historical methods, which revealed the information capabilities of various historical sources and analyze their content. As a result, found that main bulk of documents with specified issues is contained in more than 25 funds of state archive of Kursk region. Information about the participation of the population of the province in strengthening of the army may be substantially supplemented by dint of the data of the Russian State Military Historical Archive. Documents detected in the funds these archives reflect the multifaceted activities of the central and local authorities, as well as the population of Kursk province to ensure the country's defense and solving everyday economic problems during the war. Study of the content archival funds points to new opportunities by historical research, because this content has not been used previously, and sets the direction to further develop of theme about participation in the events 1914-1918 years of population of the Russian regions.
